Attention motorists presented the most reliable car engines according to experts.
10. AWM
Powertrain Series AWM open the top ten most reliable engines for cars. They were first created in 1987 and still these engines are unprecedentedly popular on many German-made cars - Volkswagen, Audi and many others. AWMs are durable, reliable and unpretentious. The most powerful engines in the AWM series are the APG and AWA engines. The first engine is an eight-valve with Digifant injection. Its volume is 1.8 liters, power is high - 160 hp. with a torque of 228 Nm / 3800 rpm. This powertrain has found the widest application in Volkswagen Passat B5 cars. The second engine is a much larger volume - 2.8l. At the same time, its power is 175 hp. at 240 Nm / 4000 rpm
9. Mersedes M266
Mersedes M266 is one of the most reliable engines for passenger cars. The 4-cylinder gasoline engine is an evolution of the previous M166, known for the first A-Class and Vaneo. The engine received a specific design, as it had to be placed at a large slope in a cramped engine compartment. Engineers have relied on simplicity: only one timing chain and an 8-valve timing mechanism. The mechanical part is very reliable. Very rarely, injector malfunctions occur.
8. Suzuki DOHC M
Engines Suzuki Dohc "M" located on the eighth line in the list of the most reliable engines. Power units of the M series include small capacity motors 1.3, 1.5, 1.6 and 1.8. The latter is intended exclusively for the Australian market. On the European continent, the powertrain is found in almost all small and medium-sized Suzuki models that appeared at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, and in the Fiat Sedici 1.6, which is a copy of the Suzuki SX4. The mechanical part of the engine is very reliable and durable. Even the VVT valve timing system used by most engine modifications is not satisfactory. It is not only in the 1.3-liter version, designed for Ignis and Jimny until 2005, and the old 1.5 versions for the SX4. The timing chain drive is very reliable. Among the minor drawbacks, small oil leaks through the crankshaft oil seal can be noted. More serious malfunctions practically do not occur.
7. Honda D-series
Honda D–series occupy the seventh line in the top of the most reliable engines for passenger cars. Honda's D-series is, first of all, the legendary D15B and all their modifications. First of all, it is worth considering these particular motors, which had the greatest impact on the development of single-shaft engines in the world. The Honda D-Series engine is an almost perfect design. Cross row mounted in the engine compartment four-row, rotating according to the "laws of Honda", counterclockwise with a belt drive. The fuel mixture was supplied through a carburetor, through two carburetors (a unique development from Honda), through a mono-injection system (supply of atomized fuel to the intake manifold), as well as an injection feed. Moreover, all these options were found simultaneously in the same model. The reliability of this series has become the standard for simple single-shaft engines. They were produced from 1984 to 2005.
6. Mitsubishi 4G63
Mitsubishi 4G63 is one of the best and most reliable engines for a car. The first 4G63 modification appeared back in 1981, and with minor changes continues to be produced to this day. The excellent technical characteristics of this motor are combined with its excellent reliability. The engines of the 4G63 family are four-cylinder power units that have a volume of 2.0 liters and power from 109 to 144 horsepower. The 4g63 engine has a cast-iron cylinder block and an aluminum head, which allows for maximum resistance to overheating.
5. Toyota 3S-FE
Toyota 3S–FE - One of the most reliable engines for cars. Modification 3S FE was one of the first Toyota with a direct fuel injection system. Using the injector allowed to significantly improve the power characteristics of the new engine, its idle speed improved, and fuel consumption was significantly reduced in comparison with the carburetor version of this engine. The Toyota 3S FE motor itself is actually an improved version of the 3S, so it retained the legendary reliability and relative simplicity of design. A feature of this power unit is the presence of two ignition coils, which increases the flammability of the fuel-air mixture. The 3S engine runs confidently on 92 and 95 gasoline. Depending on its version, the power indicator can range from 115 to 130 horsepower. The motor shows maximum torque already from the bottom, so the car owners did not experience a lack of traction.
4. Opel 20ne
Opel 20ne one of the ten most reliable engines for passenger cars. This member of the GM Family II engine family was famous for often outliving the machines on which it was installed. Simple design: 8 valves, a camshaft belt drive and a simple distributed injection system are the secrets of longevity. The power of different options is from 114 to 130 hp. Motors were produced from 1987 to 1999 and were installed on such models as Kadett, Astra, Vectra, Omega, Frontera, Calibra, as well as on Australian Holden and American Buick and Oldsmobile. In Brazil, they even released a turbocharged version of the engine - Lt3 with a capacity of 165 hp.
3. BMW M60
BMW M60 opens the top three most “indestructible” engines for a passenger car. The use of nickel-silicon coating (Nikasil) makes the cylinders of such a motor practically wear-out. By half a million kilometers, often in the engine you do not even need to change the piston rings. Simplicity of construction, high power, good margin of safety puts the M60 among the best.
2. BMW M57
BMW M57 enters the list of the most reliable engines for cars. The power unit was designed by BMW and its production began in 1998. The motor has several modifications, changes and improvements were made as the operational qualities were studied, and not all implemented engineering improvements affected the reliability of the unit equally. The main innovation of this engine was the Common Rail diesel fuel injection system, with which it was possible to achieve high engine performance. An important characteristic of all M57 engines is their ability to provide high torque at low crankshaft speeds (the exact data depends on the modification) and average maximum speeds, which led to an increase in the service life.
1. Mercedes-Benz OM602
Mersedes–Benz OM602 tops the list of the most reliable passenger car engines. In 1985, Mercedes Benz introduced the OM602 diesel engine for a passenger car, which stood out for its highest reliability and took its place in the history of the automotive industry. The resource of this 5-cylinder diesel engine was more than 500,000 km, there were cases when cars with such an engine passed more than 1 million kilometers without major engine repairs. In 1996, they released a new modification of the OM602 engine called OM602.982 with direct fuel injection and a capacity of 129 horsepower. This diesel engine had unique fuel economy characteristics (7.9 l / 100 km in the urban cycle for the C class), significant torque at low revs and worked quite quietly despite direct injection.
